Almost there!

April 28, 2011 Leave a comment

I have finally wrapped up development of SpaceJunk! I’m sure that some further testing will reveal some bugs, but that’s a given. The only thing left is a sound track. I took a crack at making music today but failed miserably. =[ I’m currently exploring some options as I cannot put SpaceJunk on FGL without a soundtrack! It’s not like I’d break a rule but I want it to be the best it can be.

Speaking of which, I’m quite happy with how the project turned out. Originally I envisioned a totally different game, but as I progressed it evolved into something else. It’s quite hard too which I find the most pleasing. Most importantly though, SpaceJunk has allowed me to grow more comfortable within the AS3 language.

I’m already planning the next project…. >=]

Busy Busy![lonely pixel news]

My posts have dwindled to nothing recently, it makes me sad. I’ve been busy with school as this semester has dumped a lot more work on my table than the previous. On a good note, I’ve FINALLY moved away from Game Maker. Don’t get me wrong, GM was a great learning tool and taught me the fundamentals of programming, but as I want to take making games seriously and eventually make it my careers, I’ve decided to move on.

At first, I dove into C++ as my programming classes at the university will be mainly C++ and I figured I’d get a head start. I worked through a couple tutorials but I found C++ to be quite overwhelming. I then checked out Java which I picked up fairly quickly and I was going to submit a text adventure game created in Java to the MiniLD last month but personal matters got in the way. Then I started looking into FlashPunk/FlashDevelop/AS3 and I think I’ve fallen in love. I’ve been playing with the Ogmo Editor which also makes things a lot easier. =] Plus by working with Flash, I can make my games available to anyone. Not to mention I can submit them to portals for moolah!

This also means I won’t be releasing my post-compo version of Voyage of Discovery. I thought it would be my last GM game but I’ve decided to leave it as the 48H LD entry it was meant to be.

I’d also like to point out how this blog has become a development blog rather than the ‘indie game awareness’ site I originally intended it to be. So if anyone’s reason for reading these posts were for the latter, check out the following: Frozen Synapse, Magicka, and Revenge of the Titans (Previously mentioned but there was a fat patch recently).

Dogfighter on Sale for $1.50

October 26, 2010 1 comment

I totally forgot to post this the other day. Dogfighter is on sale on Steam for $1.50. You cannot beat that price.

Dogfighter is a 3d third person arena airplane combat game. There are a handful of maps with tons of different weapons and power ups. The developers have been very community focused and added many community requested features. Definitely worth the try, I mean, what else are you going to spend $1.50 on? A candy bar? Oh please.

[arrow followers] EXP and Leveling! And Sound!

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment

So today, I was finally able to get some DLLs that worked to support OGG files. So now there are a few sound effects and the lava theme. I’ve also slightly improved the path finding collision bug, but still needs to be improved. I’ve also added EXP and leveling which is the first step towards abilities! But boy, does it suck that I only have a few hours a day now to work on the game. Otherwise I’d be cranking out these updates.

[arrow followers] Improved pathfinding

Ugh, its taken most of the time spent fixing my crappy path finding code. The other part was changing the rest of the code to adapt to the new path finding. There’s still some bugs that I need to work out but I’m pulling out my hair. I shall work more tomorrow.

Oh but I did add different stats to each hero. =D

[Update] Minecraft

Notch just recently added support for crafting! Of course it INDEV only, for now.

“The game now contains 59 block types, 34 item types, and 36 recipes for crafting. More’s coming!

You can make food now by making a wooden bowl and mixing some mushrooms into it.

You can make arrows, and bows, and TNT, and workbenches, and chests. And golden weapons, if you want to. Oh, and the gemstone formerly known as “emerald” is now “diamond” because it makes more sense.

Thanks for all the feedback. I’m pretty sure I’m sticking to this style of crafting. I will make it more ingame if I can so you don’t spend all the time in the inventory.”
