Chaos Invaders

November 11, 2010 Leave a comment

Chaos Invaders is a flash game with a very familiar theme. Fortunately, it changes very quickly into something new and refreshing. The stylishly pixelated invaders fall from the sky for you to catch and shoot back up at their allies. Boss battles use the same mechanic, but the boss crumbles into the pieces you can fire back up at him. It’s really worth the time to check out.

Liferaft: Zero

Liferaft: Zero is a devilishly hard platformer that reminds me of Portal. No it doesn’t have mind bending portals, but the camera’s with the camera’s watching you, the scientists behind glass windows, and the clones give me deja-vu.

Did I mention there is cake candy?

So since the end of High School (Yay!) I’ve been working diligently on my games. Mainly focusing on ZTD because I want it out ASAP, at least a beta version for the public to test. I’ve finally added a dedicated page for ZTD with information and what not that you can find here.

Secretly I’ve also been working on another game. (Gasp! It cannot be true?!) Since summer is here and its my last summer before college, I want to get some COMPLETED games into my portfolio. So I’ve decided to enter in some competitions. Currently I’m working on an entry with a friend for the Game Maker Competition 06. We already have a solid idea and are testing some elements that we would like to see in the finished product. Here’s sneak peak:

Doesn’t that just leave you wanting more? Guess you’ll have to stick around. ;]

Powder

So after mentioning going over Spelunky, I remembered a really great rouge-like I had encountered back when the DS had a flood of great home brew games. Powder was one of them. But don’t worry, its available on other platforms other than the DS. Just head on over to the download page.

Powder was actually my first encounter with a rouge-like. I had never played the infamous NetHack which was a flood of clones followed in its wake. Powder however, isn’t just a clone. Its a damn good one.

It has the expected aspects of a rouge-like; pick a race, select a class, roll some stats, start with some random loot in a randomly created dungeon, and all that good stuff. But it also provides the player with many different actions. I had the most fun with the assortment of magical spells that ranged from digging through walls and sprouting forests. There are also many different items with an even wider range of effects and abilities.

With so much randomly generated content, it is quite hard to experience the same game twice. The overall goal is to reach the last level (level 100 I believe) and kill the boss, Beelzebub. I have yet to come even close to the last level, but I have more fun summoning zombies and growing random forests anyways. The game has no sound, which I thought was a disappointment, but nonetheless is a great game. I only found disappointment with the lack of sound, but nonetheless is a great game and worth a try.
