So I believe I’ve finally settled on a name! (maybe…)

Spacejunk is similar to a classic vertical shump, except the player is our beloved planet Earth! The goal of the game is to survive randomly generated waves for as long as you can. There will be spacemines to avoid, asteroids to blow up, astronauts to save, and other planets to defeat. After each wave, you can upgrade the Earth by spending spacedust you have accumulated.

I was originally planning to be done by sometime this week and have it up at FGL, but the project has evolved a bit. Once I got to the original ‘complete’ point, I realized there wasn’t enough content. So I’ve been adding ideas that I think of through the day and also from my friends who have been kindly testing the game for the past few weeks.

Anyway, just wanted to have more of an explanation of my current project. I will post some screenshots and maybe even a game play video when time draws nearer to release date!

The New Project

So I went through several projects before I settled on the one above. The first thing you may notice is the Earth…yes I reused assets. The goal of the game is to maneuver the Earth around and survive the increasingly difficult waves of space junk, which mainly consists of asteroids. It’s sort of like Asteroids and a vertical shump combined into one. It WILL contain upgrades and a high score table as I will be attempting to get this game sponsored this time around. More to come in a few days!

[Edit] I’ve also given the blog a new theme, reorganized some stuff, and changed my bio on the about page. I really want to get my own domain though…

Love is in the Air

So today I released my first flash game, Love is in the Air. It’s basically Missile Command with more love!  I’ve already released two patches to fix some bugs that slipped past me. (doh!) All in all, I had fun making it and I hope Michelle is happy with her Valentine’s day gift! =]

Expect more Flash games!

Take a Walk

Take a Walk is a loosely-based rhythm game and platform hybrid. Your character has the basic walk forward/back and jump with obstacles that you must avoid. The music that plays in the background is timed to when the you should jump to avoid the objects and collect the notes. You’ll only notice it if you really pay attention to the music. If you continue on without stopping birds appear and increase your score. A very relaxing and intuitive game I must say.

Nanopath was just released on Armor Games. Your goal is to set a path for the little orb to follow, avoiding walls and enemies. It is quite an interesting little game mechanic.

AVOIDAL was originally created for the 18th Ludum Dare but was spruced up for a final game. It has simple, yet addicting game play; avoid everything. But the twist is that even though the little red mines hurt you, they are what you must use to destroy the blue mines to increase your difficulty and score. The spikes can also be used to destroy the blue mines but you must also avoid them too! Worth the time to check out.
(I was in fourth place on the high score table at one point.)

Pixel Purge

I really dig the graphics in this arena based shooter, Pixel Purge. Your goal is to destroy as many enemies as possible and gain a high score. New enemies are introduced as you progress and you collect “pixels” from the destroyed enemies in order to level your ship (fire rate, health, damage, etc). There are also a few power-ups to help you along the way.

Solipskier is a quite refreshing play; sorta like Linerider meet Excitebike . Your goal is to create the slope for your skier and guide him through hoops and tunnels. Watch out for the red ones those…you stop creating a slope for the few seconds you pass it.

Hello Worlds!

Hello Worlds! is a nifty little flash platform game, available on the Armor Games portal. It sports a rewind system (mmm Briad. =]) as well as something I haven’t seen before; well I don’t know what to label it…the environment in each world effects all of the instances of the player creating some pretty mend bending levels. Thankfully, there is a combine all worlds feature so you can see everything in one. (But you cant move while holding the key! That would be too easy) This one is definitely worth trying out.
