Spelunky

Just a few days ago their was an update for a popular game called Spelunky that added stats and some big fixes. But since this is the first post about Spelunky, this shall be a new/update post all in one!

Spelunky has been out for awhile now and has already received a lot of attention. It’s even going to appear on XBL in the near future, but right now its only available for Windows users.

Spelunky is a sort of rouge-platformer hypbrid. (ha ha a rouge platformer!) It’s a procedurally generated game, meaning it will be different every time you play it,  just like most rouge games. It has your basic platform jumping as you would hope be in a platformer but also has a shop to buy new weapons and gear. But look out for the OP shopkeeper, if you try stealing something he will chase you down with almost pinpoint accuracy and godlike speed.

The game itself is moderately hard. I had to go at least five times before I even got past a single stage. You go about four random levels gathering collectible loot that you can spend on items from the shops and frequently getting nailed by the arrow spitting statues. Other traps aren’t so bad. You have your standard spike pits that make you wonder if this level is actually created randomly because they are in the worst places possible. But my favorite is the Indiana Jones style boulder that appears when you steal a gold statue.

Monsters aren’t normally a problem except for ones in later stages. (I have yet to get past the second stage) There are a fair variety between the monsters and most can be killed by jumping on their heads or using the assortment of weapons the game provides.

All in all Spelunky is a must have for any gamer, definitely one that should be kept on the USB drive at all times.

EDIT: Ha ha! Silly me forgot the website link.
